Shame on us.
We have traveled extensively around the world bringing you stories of faraway lands without properly introducing you to the place we call home.
But that’s about to change because we are really happy today as Jose won a prize (and a drone! so expect aerial photography coming up real soon around here!) with his photography in his own town – and being recognized where you have been born and bred doesn’t happen every day.
Without further ado, let us show you the 10 pics that made it to the contest. They will introduce you to some of the reasons why you should experience Noia, in Galicia. One of the most charming villages of this region.
Why Should You Come And Visit Noia? Here’re 10 reasons.
1. Its stunning beauty.
Welcome to the historic village of Noia, located in one of the most spectacular estuaries in the world.
Here’s a picture of the sunset from Cadarso’s pier. Under every type of light and any given time, Noia shines on its own.
2. Its reachability.
Less than half an hour away from Santiago de Compostela and ‘Portus Apostoli’ since the Middle Ages – apostle’s port – when the village savored one of its most grandeur and glory times (today celebrated on its very own Middle Ages fair around mid-July), Noia enjoys a very accessible location since 2014 when a bridge was built to quickly access the beaches from Santiago.
Noia is now the perfect gateway to enjoy the ria de Muros y Noia, an estuary surrounded by gorgeous beaches and seaside pleasant little towns.
3. Its endless leisure opportunities.
If there are many outdoor recreation excuses during the daylight, when dusk comes, Noia shows its other face. From a walk at sunset along the wooden seaside promenade to tasting local delicacies in some of its restaurants, there is an option for you.
Insider’s tip. Try the following restaurants for a sure win:
- Meson Senra. Tapas bar in a truly Galician stone building – $
- Meson Ferrador. Great daily menu, signature dishes, and seafood – $$
4. Its beaches.
Visit for instance Testal beach, one of the headquarters of Noia’s economic engine (shellfishing/tourism) , popular as well for its proximity and beautiful strand.
5. Its mild weather.
As a result of its strategic whereabouts by the Atlantic Ocean and, at the same time, well protected from the winds, Noia has a rather moderate climate all year long.
It is never too hot or cold and, although showers can be many during the winter months, they shouldn’t bother you as our region is ready for them!
6. Its world-class seafood.
Sea to the table.
Cockles, clams, and other mollusks and seafood are harvested in our estuary, depending on the season as you can see in this picture (the awarded one by the way!) below.
7. Its unique atmosphere.
Its medieval layout is yet another reason to put Noia on your travel plans.
Stone buildings, porches, squares, churches, and even its graveyard are treasured by the locals and historians for their uniqueness and well-preserved condition.
8. A natural playground.
How do you feel about enjoying Noia from the sea? Home to many water sports, we are really proud of such a beautiful background!
9. Noia is a paradise on earth.
Here’s the big picture, a snapshot of Noia and its estuary from Pedra Serpal from where to appreciate its allure one more time.
