Our Most Liked Instagrams Ever And What Worked For Us In 2015

Girl overlooking Borobudur Temple at sunrise – Indonesia – A World to Travel

First things first. We aren’t obsessed over likes on Instagram, nor anywhere else. Social media shares and great engagement are good and eventually they help us build our brand and open some doors but they are not our main goal at all and – hopefully – they will never be.

That said, who doesn’t like some Instagram love? And what’s more important if you are really into this network, who wouldn’t like to see what works and what doesn’t, how other Instagram users react to the daily deliriums and what makes everyone happy in the end?

That, plus witnessing how our favorite analytics platform is going premium and won’t be able to afford their subscription fees to access our stats from now on, moved us to put this list together.

WHAT WORKED FOR US IN 2015 ON INSTAGRAM

Purple-pink, orange saturated images of long-exposure shots overlooking a marine scene with a tiny person on them seem to work wonders for our feed. That and Galicia landscapes (our homeland, in the North West coast of Spain) as well as some all-time iconic landmarks – surprisingly, because they usually lack creativity factor and they have been done to death by everyone else. Finally, well composed images and unique points of view went a long way too.

Reality is that you will need to scroll all the way down to see which is the picture that tops this list, our most liked Instagram picture ever. But as you do so, you will also get a glimpse of why 2015 has been grand to us, taking our cameras and ourselves to awesome places like Finland, Thailand, Berlin, the Balkans, La Palma (Spain), Mardin (Turkey), Dubai, South Africa, the North coast of Spain, Paredes de Coura festival in Portugal, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and many others.

Hope you enjoy this selection and if you aren’t doing so already, follow us on Instagram.

Picture this. You are part of #inatopbucketlist, therefore you find yourself in Yogyakarta, a vibrant Central Java city. After visiting the nearby Buddhist complex of Borobudur at sunrise, the Hindu temple of Prambanan at sunset and the complex of Rato Boko Keraton at noon, your body has already started to adjust to the #wonderfulindonesia humid heat. A couple of days have passed and on top of all those world class sights, you have also tried your luck in jewellery and batik making, wandered around Malioboro street and other neighborhoods and overall had lots of fun (and delicious meals in good restaurants, good night sleeps in a gorgeous heritage hotel and a couple of dips in the most amazing pool in town). You can’t complain. You are being treated and welcomed everywhere. Life is good. So here the 3rd day in town begins. The Royal and Water palaces are on your plans for the day AND the heat starts kicking it soon, insanely early. At 11am, your non-used-to-this-heat-at-all body is already melting. You really want to take in everything that is being laid in front of you but unluckily your energy levels start going down. You look for the shade, try to cool off with the coldest water available and move slowly, following the crowd through these touristic spots. Suddenly it starts leading you underground. Every step, the temperature decreases and you feel more and more alive. You have found the most amazing spot in town to be at noon and you are not planning to leave it for some time. * Ps. Our group spent a good time enjoying the coolness of #SumurGumuling, a former underground mosque dating from the 18th century. Its unique design makes it for great acoustics and a safe place to scape the – sometimes – extremely hot weather of Yogyakarta. IMO, the city deserves a proper visit just for this construction alone. Pure awesomeness.

Pulau Padar, the most stunning place this #wonderfulindonesia trip has treated us with so far. #inatopbucketlist Today is one of those days when you don’t really know if you have really lived and experienced everything that is in your memory card. Think of stepping into 5 different islands, witnessing the unique Komodo dragons at home, snorkeling over untouched and colorful corals, yachting our way around the magic scenery pictured here and more. That crazy cool. But this one deserved to be posted straight away so there it goes. More coming up tomorrow! * Pulau Padar is a paradise island in the Komodo National Park, Indonesia. We arrived by boat from Labuan Bajo and hiked all the way to the top to capture the sunset over its epic landscape. ** Thanks once again to @indtravel for their hospitality

And hello #LabuanBajo, Flores, #wonderfulindonesia. This #inatopbucketlist bound has finally taken us to this paradise early this morning, when we flew out of the touristy Bali Denpasar into Flores with @indtravel . The ride was nothing short of spectacular and every 5 minutes, a huge volcano crater amongst cotton clouds or a turquoise surrounded island popped in front of our plane window. Talk about photo ops! Right after landing, we headed to Melo Village to witness a Caci dance performance and had a look to the work @pelangibook is doing at the local school. Of course the kids were pretty adorable and we had loads of fun with them. Check our project @humansindonesia for more pics! Tomorrow we’ll be heading to Rinca Island, Komodo and we couldn’t be more excited about exploring places like Loh Liang and Pink beach. And spotting a Komodo dragon or two as well. Good night from beautiful Indonesia!

Some really great photos, I’ll have to start following your Instagram – you obviously deserve more likes! πŸ˜€

It seems as the year progresses you can tell that you’re improving as photographers, which is a good thing! Good luck for the future.

  3. Roaming Renegades (@Travel_Explore1)

Wow, you have an amazing instagram account with some stunning photos. Thanks for sharing! We have seen our instagram improve a lot this year but just putting a little bit more time into it.

    • Inma

It needs time, I hear you!
Wishing you lots of fun travels in 2016 and thanks for stopping by and commenting πŸ™‚

Beautiful! Looks like you’re doing some great things with your Instagram πŸ™‚ I always have a loving / hating relationship with Insta. When I see your pics I really like it πŸ™‚ But for myself it doesn’t really work. I actually see these pictures rather here in your post than on insta, haha πŸ˜‰ Personal thing, I know. Anyway, good job! Keep up the good work πŸ˜€

    • Inma

That’s funny Grietje! Thanks so much for stopping by and letting us know how you feel about Insta. It is indeed a beast πŸ˜€

  5. Victoria Metcalfe

So many beautiful shots! I’m going to check now that I’m following you. I’m trying to work on Insta too but I need an Instagram husband!

By just looking at your Instagram photos I’ve already gotten some tips on how to capture a good picture. I think you are worth liking though, these are the kind of pictures that I personally like to give a heart to on IG.

  8. Claudia

First of all, this is a fantastic post and a great overview of your instagram. I love your pictures, and have seen you in action so I am not surprised with the amazing results. I have tried to experiment with what works on my instagram and my conclusion is that people mostly expect me to post pictures of beautiful Sardinian beaches and sea. Wildlife hardly gets any attention. Anyways, I have decided to stop worrying over engagement and likes as I have noticed that, despite the number of followers keeps going up, the percentage of those who like my pictures keeps getting lower. A few instagramers (real ones, not like me!) I have talked to are experiencing the same, and it is a bit disheartening because – as you say – without being obsessed we do need some lovin’ πŸ™‚

    • Inma

      So freaking true, Claudia!
First of all, thanks for commenting. As you noticed a decrease in the engagement, the whole Instagram community has noticed it too. Unfortunately, since Facebook bought Instagram, it seems money has become a priority for this company (after all, isn’t that what every company is looking for?). Ads are now part of the network and unless you are part of that game, I think it is going downhill. Hope I am wrong. Anyway, let’s see! Big hug for you and Sardinia and hope to see you soon!

  9. The Aussie Flashpacker

Great job guys! It’s been a good year for us on Instagram too πŸ™‚ Happy travels!

Some beautiful photos in there! That zoom shot of the Petronas Towers in KL really sticks out to me, I can’t believe it’s not at the top of the list. Cheers, and just followed to looking forward to seeing more. πŸ™‚

    • Inma

lol creativity doesn’t reach everyone there! Thanks for your comment and hope 2016 brings you a lot of Instagram goodness too!

  11. Dang Travelers

You take amazing pictures!! Sounds and looks like your year was full of adventures. Happy New Year and cheers to having a great 2016!

    • Inma

That’s right! Are you on Instagram as well? Let us know your username if you are! πŸ˜€ Would love to have a look
