Surfing is an exciting sport that really helps improve not only your physical strength but can also have psychological benefits. Paddling is really great for your biceps, triceps, deltoids and your core muscles.  Standing up on the board is a great workout for your hips, joints, and your lower body muscles like your quadriceps, gluteals, and the gastrocnemius. It is a fabulous overall body workout and it will help you get into peak shape.  Here are five awesome surfing spots that experienced surfers must try.  

Playa Grande, Costa Rica

This is one of the most popular places for surfing in Costa Rica because beach almost always has fabulous wave and conditions. You can expect to find swells that reach 10 feet high on a good day.

The tides can rise quite quickly which creates some ideal waves for surfers of all levels. On the other hand, waves are fast and tight and you can get some really great long rides here.  

Long Beach, Cape Town

This area in South Africa is known for its consistently good swells. The atmosphere of the beach on the weekends is friendly but hectic so if you have time, head here during the week.

When conditions are ideal the waves are easy to ride and fast moving. There is a permanent sandbar in the middle of the break that keeps things interesting for all who ride here. A holiday to Cape Town also offers a lot of other experiences, so when you want to take a break from surfing, there is plenty more to do.

Banzai Pipeline, Oahu

This is epic surf that is ideal for experienced surfers who know what they are doing.

People from all over the world travel here and it is home of the awe-inspiring Pipeline Masters Surf Contest. This shallow reef is dangerous though so don’t try it unless you know what you are doing. Surfboards get broken, people get injured, and there have been several death related accidents.  The best time to surf is in the winter months as the waves are pretty flat in the summer.

It is also a great place to watch surfing and if you are not experienced enough to ride you can stand on the shore and be awe inspired by the people who dare to enter the water.  

White Beach, Okinawa

This is a great spot in Japan that is fabulous for surfers of all levels and there are plenty of accommodation options available. It is only a 20-minute cab ride from the Okinawa airport.

It is pretty packed on weekends so if you can go during the week that is ideal.  If the waves here are a bit calm for your taste you can easily head over to the existing reef breaks of Aha-Yoko or Suicide Cliffs that are nearby. If you love the ocean, you can spend some time on your visit to Japan on an island hopping tour.

South Cape Bay, Tasmania

Tasmania is often overlooked by surfers for the more popular beaches of Sydney. But this commonwealth state of Australia is known for fabulous surfing.

Be sure to head over to South Cape Bay on the west coast to experience huge, clean waves on a southerly swell consistently. You can reach the beach by hiking along a stunning walking trail that will leave you leave you inspired before you even enter the pristine beach.
