As we did last year, here’s our visual wrap-up of 2013. 17 visited countries, dozens of thousands of air miles, and a lot of unexpected travel opportunities later find out what we were up to last 12 months.
1. JANUARY
New year, new adventures. January marked the beginning of A World to Travel. To celebrate, we visited some great outdoors near Galicia: Las Medulas Park and Cabarceno.
A few days after, one of our articles about the Paredes de Coura Festival went kind of viral and gathered more than 10.000 views and 2500 Facebook likes in 24 hours. We couldn’t believe the traffic spike!
Also, one of us visited the FITUR Tourism fair at the end of the month. There, we got the first prize in the AllMexicoTrip writing competition that would take us to Mexico in May.
2. FEBRUARY
Not even 24 hours after that great news, the bus that was taking us to the Alps almost killed us all. Luckily, no one was hurt!
Also this month, our website went bilingual and we sent our first ever newsletter!
3. MARCH
We attended ITB in Berlin and stayed there for almost a week instead of 24 hours as we intended to do in the first place. After that, we didn’t care about travel plans anymore and started country-hopping our way to the East European countries we had never visited before: Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania (and Italy on our way back). We loved them all for one month.
4. APRIL
Back from Romania, we launched our “On the Road” interview series to get to know interesting people who have successfully combined travel and work, studies, or volunteering activities. More than 15 people have already taken the challenge and they have proven it’s possible and highly rewarding!
5. MAY
We won a well-known Spanish airline company contest that would take us to shoot a video guide in one of our favorite European capitals next month, Lisbon.
A brief visit to Ancares gave us the opportunity of getting close and personal with this area. We’ll definitely come back to capture all the different seasonal colors that take part in the valley!
During May’s second half, Inma wanders around six different Mexican states as part of the #AllMexicoTrip for 17 days. One of the highlights of 2013 indeed!
6. JUNE
After recording the Iberia guide in Lisbon, we make our way back to Galicia stopping in all those stunning spots the Portuguese coast showcases.
After a quick visit full of sunsets goodness to Ons Islands where it’s still possible to enjoy free camping, one of us jumped the pond once again to work in the states of Rhode Island and New York for a month.
7. JULY
Back from the US, we were off to Gran Canaria. There, we experienced a lot more than a touristy South. In fact, we fell for the North part of the island. How cool is to welcome the 30s there?
8. AUGUST
BlogOnBrands and Extremadura took us to this incredible land for the #Alagontrip. Rowing 19km along with hundreds of crazy people is something we’ll remember for a long time! Sierra de Gata and Jerte Valley were also great and the perfect playground for photography lovers like us!
Right after, THE event we were waiting for all year-long took part. 100% fans (we simply don’t miss an edition year after year), Paredes de Coura music festival offered us a press pass this year so it was double fun! Tons of pictures and fun later, I’m still wearing those bracelets.
9. SEPTEMBER
Second visit to France in 2013. This time, Paris and Île-de-France were in the menu before taking off to Lithuania and Siberia.
10. OCTOBER
Second time in Italy also this year, we came back to know the rationalist architecture in Forli and surroundings, to take part in the TBDI Rimini, visit the Abruzzo region, and live like a local in Bologna and Emilia-Romagna for one week as part of the Blogville project.
From there, we jumped to San Marino and came back home via the Balearic island of Menorca.
11. NOVEMBER
Urbino, in Italy, invited us to get to know first-hand why it should become the European City of Culture in 2019. That’s how we made it to Italy for the third time in 2013.
12. DECEMBER
After winning a minube prize, we decided to visit Cudillero, Asturias, for a weekend getaway early in the month. Luckily, San Isidro ski resort, Leon, is not far from there and we got to spend a white and fun day on the slopes too!
Last but not least, as you might have noticed these days, we were part of #blogmanay in Scotland last New Year’s Eve. Music festivals and great outdoors, that’s how we like to say goodbye to 2013! From Edinburgh, we toured the Scottish Highlands and Isle of Skye. But this is already part of 2014 so I guess we should stop right here:
